Every star under the sun
June 1, 2006

By Therese Owen

Celebrities, international models, kwaito stars, Miss South Africa, fashion designers, very rich people and the gorgeous Seal are set to invade Sun City next weekend. And it's all in the name of raising funds for the Tapologo Aids Hospice in the North West Province.

In a four-day festival called Postive, which includes champagne breakfasts and art exhibitions, the main focus will be the Cell C Positive Rocks banquet.

Here local musos like Brown Dash, Karen Zoid, Loyiso and Unathi will perform, while slinky models such as Caroline Ribeiro and Fernanda Tavares will glide down the ramp wearing clothes by Versace, Valentino and Christian Lacroix.

Thereafter a five-course dinner by Michelin chefs will be served. Seal and the South Africans are donating their performances for free.

There will be two art exhibitions - The Hope Healing Compassion Exhibition and the Wall of Hope Exhibition. These will open on Thursday June 8 and will remain open till the end of the festival on Sunday June 11 .

It is the largest collection of artworks in the country, with over 100 artists exhibiting. Celebrities like Metallica's Lars Ulrich, Aretha Franklin, Katie Melua as well as local celebs Cindy Nel, Gary Player and Makhaya Ntini have created art for the exhibitions. All art works are on sale.

On Saturday from 10am there will be the Valley of Waves Festival of Hope, which includes comedians Ed Jordan and David Kau. DJs Fresh and Bad Boy T, as well as artists such as Hip Hop Pantsula and Sliq, will also perform. There will also be a fashion show by South African designers.

Seal will performing at the Superbowl from 8pm. On Sunday the festival offers a choice between a shebeen lunch or a picnic and a classical concert on the bowling green. Seal performs his final concert at the Superbowl from 3-5pm.
