They're from a tiny town in Sweden, are huge in Estonia and just rocked New Bethesda at the Bat Barn, a new venue started by Jonathan Handley (ex-Radio Rats).
Meet Tuckers Lilla Kapell (Tuckers Little Dance Band), a five-piece of 50-something rockers from Gestrikland, touring their brand of "Irish pop-country-rock" (think Leningrad Cowboys, or "The Pogues gone cowpunk") in part courtesy to their bassist Dave "Herbie" Parkin (ex- Radio Rats, Corporal Punishment).
They play with the "wedding band from hell", The Hip Replacements - Mark Bennett (Corporal Punishment, Cherry Faced Lurchers, Bernoldus Niemand), Allan Lusk (No Exit and The Spectres), Andrew Donaldson, Harvey Roberts (ex-Dynamics) and Paul Areal (Neill Solomon, Roger Lucey, Piet Botha).
The gig is something of a SA '70s and '80s rebel rock reunion. Jannie "Hanepoot" van Tonder (Gereformeerde Blues Band, Voëlvry) is to play the Cape gig, and Dan Davies is rumoured to be flying down and the keen archivist will note that there are members of The Softies on the tour. One night only. Recommended. (Saturday, Speedway Cafe, Tafelberg Tavern, Roodehek Terrace, off Hope St, Gardens, 9pm, R50).
Just Jinjer, Karen Zoid, Zebra & Giraffe, Josie Field, Prime Circle, Cofield Mundi, Coda, Kurt Darren, Matthys Roets and more play the Forbidden Fruit Festival. (Friday to Sunday, Klienplasie, Worcester). See 4biddenfruit.co.za for line-up, family fun, stalls, celeb attendance, camping and and ticket details.
