Explosive Got Talent finale on the cards
|
November 12, 2009

Who is going to win? Have your say...
The last of SA's Got Talent semi-final rounds yielded few surprises yesterday.
From a group of substantially weaker performers than the previous two nights' acts, hip-hop contemporary dancer Kalon Badenhorst, 12, was the obvious choice to slot in at first place.
The sensational singing Van der Merwe brothers - Louis, 27, and Willem, 33 - were awarded the judges' nod, thereby completing the final six contestants set to compete in tonight's grand finale.
The six acts through the finale are:
Willem and Louis vd Merwe
Darren Rajbal
George Avakian
Cleo Filander
Louwtjie Rothman
Kalon Badenhorst
The Idols voting debacle that occurred early this year (which saw Sasha-Lee Davids declared the winner, before it was later revealed that a backlog of SMS votes that had not been accounted for made Jason Hartman the rightful victor), has the SA's Got Talent producers pulling out all the stops.
They are determined to ensure that a similar scenario does not happen in the decisive broadcast of the show.
"A lack of sufficient bandwidth, which resulted in a bottleneck, was essentially what caused the backlog in the Idols incident," explained Duncan Irvine, CEO of Rapid Blue, the production house behind SA's Got Talent. "Consequently, we've taken strategic steps to avoid a repeat of this."
The steps include:
Continual analysis of the voting trends, which offers an indication of the volume of votes likely to come through during the finale;
Providing maximum bandwidth capacity;
Bandwidth throttling, which, in layman's terms, limits the flow of data through a particular server, as a means of guaranteeing that no information other than actual votes will be transmitted during the polling.
"With all these precautions, we're confident there won't be any mishaps," added Irvine.
Catch the finale on SABC2 at 7.30pm tonight.
