Kurbaan 'not same as other terrorism films'
|

The interest in Rensil D'Silva's Kurbaan has been obvious. Given its post-9/11 terrorism slant, which was also tackled by director Kabir Khan in New York, one can understand the relevance for movie buffs.
Saif Ali Khan, the protagonist in Kurbaan, offers his take on the film...
There've been similarities drawn between Kurbaan, New York, and, to a lesser extent, Fanaa. How do you feel about this?
Leaving the audiences aside, I had the same question as the media and industry, when Kurbaan was offered to me. However, once I read the script, all doubts went out the window. I know it is not Fanaa. I have not seen New York, but I have read its script and I know for sure that you cannot compare these two films.
However, the link of terrorism on foreign soil is similar, though?
In that case, Ek Haseena Thi and Kill Bill could be considered to fall into the same category as well. Even closer home, my film Love Aaj Kal was accused of being a Hum Tum. Both were conversational films around how two people come together after some time once they have grown further in their life. But does that make these films similar? No. Each story is told differently.
Do you think the movie's poster sent out the right message to audiences?
Absolutely, things have been going quite well for Kurbaan and I am, of course, glad that it is. I always feel that the first look of the film is equally important to the rest. The audience of today is demanding and their decisions are often based on first impressions.
Kareena Kapoor says that, because of the complexity of your character and the way you have handled it, you should be a strong contender for all major awards in 2010. Should we believe her?
(Laughs) Have I come up with an award-winning act? Well, I won't say that. Really, I never thought of an award while shooting for Kurbaan. Yes, it's a tough and a strong role, but what I have done isn't stupendous. The film is stupendous, though. It is a deadly movie for sure. Regarding my performance, it's for people to decide and let me know! - BollywoodHungama.com
