The announcements feature Kenneth Nkosi and Rapulana Seiphemo, who co-wrote, star in and co-own the movie.
Nkosi and Seiphemo make the point that people buying pirated DVDs are effectively stealing from them and harm not only their business but also the local film industry.
It isn't known how pirates obtained a copy of White Wedding, but it must have been copied during the post-production process or from a preview copy.
Known locally as fong-kong, pirated DVDs are sold at low prices as the pirates have practically no "input costs", churning DVDs out at for as little as R10 a disc.
White Wedding publicist Joy Sapieka says that, in theory, the film industry loses approximately R50 for every fake DVD sold on the street.
The "real" White Wedding DVD will be released by Next Video and will be available in stores from mid-June. This version will include additional features such as the "making of" documentary.
The film has been doing extremely well on the local circuit, taking R4-million in total at the box office, of which the production company receives 30 percent.
The CD soundtrack to White Wedding will be released at the end of June, and the team have created two new music videos featuring the movie characters and musicians together. Look out for the dance performed – the sghubu shuffle – when the videos become available on Zoopy at the end of June. - Tonight Film Writer
