Ajay gets into that swinging mood
November 11, 2009

Abhishek Bachchan walked in with Amar Singh instead of his dad, Amitabh, or his wife, Aishwariya Rai, at Ajay Devgn's (that's how he now spells his surname after astrological advice) first-ever bash for his friends in the industry on Thursday evening.

Bashful and cynical about glam-gatherings, Ajay always shunned attending parties and has never before thrown one.

But the new power-packed Ajay, newly energised by the success of All The Best, now on circuit, has resolved to let the world know he is ready to conquer showbiz.

Ajay's buddies, Sanjay Dutt and Maanyata, were the first to arrive and also among the first to leave, since Sanjay had an early-morning flight to catch to South Africa.

And then there was Fardeen Khan and his wife Natasha.

After his successful back surgery in New York, Fardeen was back in Mumbai for his first public appearance at Ajay's first-ever party for his colleagues at the Sahara Star Hotel - a day after he, Ajay, wrapped up Prakash Jha's Rajneeti in Bhopal.

All the arrangements were taken care of by Ajay and his wife Kajol, who were prominently a part of the celebrations.

The party went on until the wee hours of the morning with star couple John Abraham and Bipasha Basu showing up.

But as one of the guests later said: "This party was a show of strength for Ajay. For too long he has smirked and silently watched the Khans (Salman, Shah Rukh and Aamir) rule as the glamour elements in Bollywood.

"With wife Kajol at his side, Ajay wants to build Brand Devgn in par with Saif Ali Khan and girlfriend Kareena Kapoor and Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai.

"The party on Thursday night was the first step in that direction."
