Cape Town - Gift of the Givers set up a drop-off collection point at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) to help families that have suffered devastating losses in KwaZulu-Natal because of the floods.
Ali Sablay from Gift of the Givers said when the disaster occurred in KZN, one of the most critical needs was clean, drinking water.
“We had clinics, hospitals and communities calling our call centres, pleading for clean, drinking water. Many of the waterworks infrastructures are still damaged, and that’s where the need came about for clean, drinking water,” he said.
The CTICC contacted Gift of the Givers and gave it 5 000m2 of floor space where people could drop off water.
Sablay said that in addition to the help from Cape Town residents, its team had been working 24/7 to help communities in KZN with food and blanket deliveries.
About six full trucks would deliver water to KZN. Sablay said he appreciated the outreach and support shown.
“We would like to thank the community of Cape Town for their support and coming to the fore and dropping off the water.
“There’s a lot of positivity in this operation and we would like to thank everyone for playing their part,” he said.
