A Langa man accused of raping a 15-year-old intellectually-challenged girl has been granted R1000 bail while her alleged second attacker is also facing charges.
It is alleged the teen has become a victim twice of sexual assaults by two different male suspects.
According to the teenager's grandmother, she was allegedly raped by two men on two separate occasions who live in the same block of flats in Langa.
Joseph Nthethe, is believed to have raped the teen on March 27 and was granted bail of R1000 on Friday at the Bishop Lavis Magistrates' Court.
The second accused, Lyanda Nkomiyaphi who was also expected to make an appearance at the courthouse on the same day, did not attend proceedings after he was reportedly ill and had his bail application postponed.
It is alleged that Nkomiyaphi raped the teen raped the teen on August 27 2024.
The teen's grandmother explained what took place: “This guy [Joseph] was standing outside the block of flats where he lived, and my grandchild was on her way to her aunt’s house when she passed there.
"He called her and told her to buy a cold drink, then when she came back, he took her, closed the door and raped her.”
Nthethe was then arrested and charged with rape.
Irate community members protested and said they were left disappointed and disgruntled after Nthethe was granted bail, while a protection order was taken out against him.
Anele Gqasana, the Chairperson of Langa GBVF Stakeholder Forum said they are not happy with the decision as this is not the only rape case they are dealing with in the community of Langa.
“I am devastated and as a community we are so sad. It is an injustice to the community, the victim and the people at large. The justice system is just failing us even in the way they did things by calling the victim to face the perpetrator.
"The victim was so scared, literally shaking. How is it that a man accused of rape is out so easily?
"He did not show any remorse and stood proud, as if he had done nothing wrong.
"We are very unhappy about the outcome of this case. We do not want Losi in our community, we cannot have a monster in our community. We cannot live like this.
"We are mobilising for No Bail application to ensure that justice is served and the community is prioritised. We will continue to stand with the families and call for justice to be served.”
