The body of a man found riddled with stab wounds in bushes in Westridge, Mitchell’s Plain, could possibly be linked to that of a missing person.

According to a crime fighter who was at the scene and asked not to be identified due to safety concerns, the murder was one of the most horrific they had encountered.

“This was one of the most gruesome bodies I have seen over the years,” they said.

“He was stabbed multiple times and there were a lot of wounds on his face, neck, upper body and hands as he probably tried to stop his attacker.”

They said the victim was dressed in clothing fitting the description of an adult male who was missing - that of black trousers and takkies, and that this was the second murder in the same area in recent weeks, bearing the same hallmarks.

It is understood the man’s family has since been informed and further investigations are expected to follow to positively identify him.

Police were called to the scene on Tuesday, April 8, on the corner of Wespoort Drive and Dagbreek Avenue.

Police spokesperson, Joseph Swartbooi, said police were yet to make an arrest.

“The circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of an unidentified man on a field in Westridge are now the subject of an investigation by the South African Police Service,” he said.
