Durban — There have been reports of another drink-spiking incident in Morningside, Durban.

On Tuesday evening, Drinkerbell said they had had another report of drink-spiking at a popular establishment in Morningside.

“Thank goodness the young lady was with her parents and they managed to get her home safely. The establishment has been amazing in helping out with footage,” Drinkerbell said on its Facebook page.

“We are asking every single establishment to come on board with us and help catch these predators by working with us,” Drinkerbell pleaded.

The company asked if anyone knew of any managers, or owners or is an owner to reach out to them and make sure that our young women have a safe space to socialise

Earlier this month, Drinkerbell asked people not to be the “it won’t happen to me” person.

“We’re hearing stories every single day of young women – and men – who have had their drinks spiked and while we work at being heard and fight to have the perpetrators put behind bars, please be aware,” Drinkerbell said.

The company called on people to update their In Case of Emergency calls on their phones and to make sure that their friends know where they are and take their Drinkerbell with them wherever they go.

In August, IOL reported that drink-spiking was rife and happening in pubs, bars, restaurants, corporate events and even at house parties.

Drinkerbell founder Peach Piche said in recent weeks, women had come forward to share how their drinks were spiked while out with friends at some of the city’s popular hot spots. In one case, a woman was allegedly raped at an establishment in uMhlanga.

“We were saddened to hear of the latest reports, but do get reach outs from women nationally all the time telling us their stories. Women should be on guard at all times, keep their drinks covered and reach out to a friend if they start feeling out of sorts. They also need a buddy system and should stick together. The latest reports powered our passion to do more, which is why we created the Drinkerbell Support group for victims to share their stories as well as the Drinkerbell Foundation to assist where we can with financial challenges faced in these investigations,” Piche said.
