Durban — A 41-year-old woman was expected to appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court on Monday for murder.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said the woman faces a murder charge following an incident over the weekend.

Gwala said that at about 11.40pm on Saturday, a KwaMashu police patrol van attended a murder complaint at Block A 541 Jabula in the hostel, where they found the dead body of a man.

“It was alleged that the deceased had a fight with his girlfriend and during their altercation, he was pushed and subsequently hit the wall with his head and died on the scene. The suspect was then placed under arrest,” Gwala said.

In a separate incident, in July, a man and woman were arrested for the alleged kidnapping and murder of the woman’s ex-boyfriend’s girlfriend, Akhona Mkhize, 23, in Inanda.

Mkhize had visited her boyfriend and was kidnapped by unknown suspects while her boyfriend was not present. Information was received that the vehicle with the suspects that kidnapped her was seen leaving the premises with the ex-girlfriend of Mkhize’s boyfriend.

Inanda SAPS detectives assisted by police officers from the Stabilisation Operation Team deployed in the province conducted an operation to trace the kidnapped victim and the suspects.

The operation yielded positive results when they arrested a 34-year-old woman who later admitted that she orchestrated the kidnapping with the assistance of another man.

The investigation led the team to a dumping site at Buffelsdraai in Verulam where the body of Mkhize was found with strangulation marks.

A 24-year-old man was traced and located at Echibini in Ixopo where he was arrested.
