DURBAN - A motorist, an elderly man, is expected to appear before the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (today) for shooting dead another motorist in Durban.

Police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the man, 67, is due in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court for murder.

“On Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 2.45pm, Pinetown police received a complaint of a shooting on the M13 off-ramp in Pinetown and proceeded to the scene.

“On arrival officers found the body of a 49-year-old man with gunshot wounds to the chest who was confirmed dead at the scene,” Mbele said.

A report suggests that the man succumbed to a gunshot wound to the chest after he confronted another motorist on the M13 off-ramp near Gillitts. The other motorist handed himself over to police after the incident.

START Rescue spokesperson Warren Brauns said they received reports that a man was lying in the middle of the on-ramp at the traffic lights on the M13, Gillitts westbound, in the Upper Highway area.

“The report had come from a woman driving past and she further reported that the man had been shot but she could not stop,” Brauns said.

He said it was sadly reported that the person was declared deceased.
