Durban — KwaZulu-Natal debut author’s book is among those authors shortlisted for the 2022 SA Literary Awards.

Forty-two-year-old Khanyisile Madlala’s book titled Arrested by His Love was nominated for Best Healing book.

The awards are set to take place in Durban on October 15.

Describing the book, Madlala said it documents a young woman’s life who has emerged stronger after facing many adversaries in her life, physically and emotionally arrested, misdiagnosed as mentally ill and having to fight for survival through that process.

Since the book launched in May 2021, Madlala has sold 30% of the memoir’s print run.

She said she decided to give the rest away because she felt that it would help people to turn their lives around for the better.

On her reaction when she was informed about the nomination, the media entrepreneur, life coach, public speaker and event MC said: “I am elated and appreciate the recognition very much. I would love the honour and reward of winning in the Healing category. Well, for now, I have been visualising the awards evening reaction,” said Madlala.

Madlala said her main focus for writing the book was to give people the courage to allow themselves to heal after traumatic experiences.

“I wanted an opportunity to help men and women out there, in fact, families, to face their past traumas, hurts and mistakes. Start a journey towards healing, and restoration as well as realising one’s purpose. I loved reading as a teen, until now and used to write song lyrics as a youngster, so perhaps being an author was always in my future path,” she said.

Adding that through the book she was communicating by faith – that God would always be there in all “arrests” of life – ensuring love and healing.

She further revealed that she was currently writing two more books. A business and a spiritual book to be published in 2023.
