Durban — An elderly man was one of two arrested for the alleged unlawful possession of three firearms and ammunition.
Two men, aged 64 and 30 years, were arrested on Monday after police officers from the Empangeni Task Team followed up information regarding persons who were apparently in possession of firearms.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said the team went to a homestead in Ndondwane, Empangeni, where a search was conducted.
“Upon searching the house, three home-made shotguns with five rounds of ammunition were recovered. Two men, aged 30 and 64, were placed under arrest for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition,” Gwala said.
She said the pair appeared before the Empangeni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The matter was adjourned to October 11, Gwala said.
