Durban — The eThekwini Municipality has announced that the Mount Edgecombe garden refuse site has been reopened.
The site was closed earlier this month because it had reached total capacity.
The site has been open since last Thursday.
“Residents are permitted to dispose of one bakkie load not exceeding 750kg or ¾ ton of garden refuse per week, free of charge at any of the Cleansing and Solid Waste garden refuse sites,” the statement read.
“Garden waste contractors are permitted to dispose of five loads per company per day at designated garden refuse sites.”
The statement added that any excess loads are to be taken directly to the Buffelsdraai Landfill Site.
Earlier this month, the municipality advised residents that the Mount Edgecombe and Wyebank garden sites had been temporarily closed as both sites had reached full capacity.
It said the municipality asked residents to use the Mariannhill and Buffelsdraai landfill sites for their garden refuse disposal in the interim.
A process to clear the closed sites was under way. A notice will be issued once the sites are cleared and open for public use.
