Durban — An oil spill caused total road closure in the vicinity of the Peter Brown Interchange in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday.
A single truck crash resulted in an oil spill and closure of the N3 in the vicinity of the Peter Brown Interchange in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday morning.
The N3 Toll Concession (N3TC) warned road-users of a total road closure due to an earlier oil spill in the vicinity of the Peter Brown Interchange in Pietermaritzburg, which was causing heavy traffic congestion and delays.
The N3TC said that on the southbound carriageway heading towards Durban, there was stationary traffic which may extend back beyond the Cedara Interchange towards Tweedie.
“Clean-up and recovery operations are under way, but congestion and delays are expected to continue until the scene has been cleared,” the N3TC said.
“Motorists are requested to slow down and to approach the area with caution.”

Road Traffic Inspectorate spokesperson Zinhle Mngomezulu said the road was still closed as a mopping up operation was still under way.
Mngomezulu said a large amount of oil was spilt around 8am on Sunday.
She said no one was injured but the truck driver was stuck in the truck.
