Durban — Two suspects were arrested after they are alleged to have stolen a vehicle at a shopping centre in Chatsworth, south of Durban, on Thursday afternoon.
Chatsworth Crime Watch reported that at 3.10pm four suspects arrived in a grey Volkswagen Tiguan and stole a white Toyota Etios from the Pick n Pay Centre parking.
It said while fleeing, the suspects drove over spikes, resulting in the front tyres of the VW Tiguan they arrived in getting punctured.
The community group said Durban metro police and the SAPS Chatsworth Task Team were contacted by centre management or security and they headed in the last known direction of the fleeing suspects.
The Tiguan was located by metro police and SAPS in Croftdene Drive.
“Two suspects were apprehended. SAPS and metro police are currently combing the area for the remaining two suspects in the (stolen) white Etios,” Chatsworth Crime Watch said.
Police were approached for comment but had not responded at the time of publishing.
On Facebook, Ravesen ‘Ravi’ Chetty said that one suspect literally got caught with his pants down.
Letitia Amelia Naidoo said: “Pick n Pay Centre seems to currently be a high-risk area for theft all of a sudden.”
Kavash Govender said first it was MTN getting hit and now this.
“How safe are the shoppers?”
Kuresha Moodley said that she lives in Unit 6, Arena Park and her house was broken into twice in one week, when criminals cleaned them out.
