Durban — Police are investigating a case of murder after a decomposed woman’s body was found in Mtwalume earlier this week.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Nqobile Gwala said it is alleged that on Monday at 12pm, the decomposed body of a woman believed to be in her forties was found by workers who were busy digging next to the road on the R102 in Mtwalume.

“The body was wrapped with a sheet with blood stains and had no visible injuries,” Gwala said.

She said the motive of the killing is unknown at this stage.

“A case of murder is investigated by Hibberdene SAPS,” Gwala said.

We are appealing to anyone who might have information about the suspects involved to contact the local police or Crime Stop on 08600 10111, Gwala said.

Mtwalume became infamous in 2020 when the bodies of six women were found in the Mtwalume area on the South Coast of KZN between April and August that year.

The bodies of the women were found dumped in a sugarcane field and a nearby bush.

One of the bodies was charred and the victim had to be identified pending DNA results.

One of the accused arrested for the murders, Mduduzi “Mafutha” Khomo, allegedly hanged himself while in police custody.

Khomo, 41, was one of two accused arrested for the murders.

The second suspect was released due to a lack of evidence.
