Nothing has been cute for Mihlali Ndamase after she found herself on the wrong side of history following her usage of gay slurs during her Instagram rant.
Ndamase took to her Instagram to express what seems to be a heartfelt apology to the community members of the LGBTQIA+ stating that her intention was not to harm or offend them with her choice of words.
“I would like to apologise to the LGBTQIA+ family, my intention was not to harm or offend you with the phrases used during my live,” says Ndamase.
She further acknowledges that a significant number of her fan base comes from the LGBTQIA+ community and thanks them for the love and support they have shown her over the years.
This comes after the backlash she received from her supporters who found her choice of words unacceptable and homophobic emphasising that phrases such as “double adapter” and “Mr After Nine” dehumanise and degrade the people of the community.
However, her apology has not been met with warmth as she is accused of only apologising just to “secure the bag” as she shortly posted a Fenty Beauty campaign reel on her feed.
This has led to people questioning the genuineness of the apology, adding that she only apologised so she can post about her paid promo with a big brand.
“Releasing this video a few minutes after making that statement apologising to the LGBTQ fans is just so tone deaf but get your bag sis,” says siba_kinginaskirt.
While some find that her apology is not enough, others are congratulating her on her Fenty Beauty collaboration after many had thought the brand would not work with her following an Instagram post of a picture of Ndamase standing next to Rihanna but airbrushing her own face to appear more appealing than the singer.
“Mihlali came back to remind the airbrush-police that they truly are a figment of imagination in the real world,” says tsemenya on Instagram.
