South African singer-songwriter and musician Khaya Mthethwa has thanked his followers for assisting him in putting pressure on MiWay Insurance to settle a long-standing claim.
The “Idols South Africa” season 8 winner took to his official platforms and outed the insurer’s legal department for ignoring his emails and honouring a court judgement in his favour.
“@miwayinsurance I’d like to know why our emails since Nov 2024 have been ignored by your legal department?”
The pastor and gospel star explained that the claim was from 2016 and was declined; he finally had his day in court last year. He also shared pictures of the November judgment.
“My claim was declined in 2016 and I finally got my day in court with you guys last year in Feb and we won the case!! Now it’s a mission to get you guys to settle this claim and I’m sick and tired of chasing. I really hope I’m the only person getting this kind of treatment,” Mthethwa wrote.
Sometimes it takes a little social media pressure for matters to be resolved and this is certainly the case for Mthethwa as a day after his initial post, he has shared that the matter is finally settled.
“We signed a settlement yesterday and they are processing the claim as we speak. I am sure by the end of the week its going to be done. I just wanted to say thank you for helping me spread the word and sharing your personal stories. This is the power of social media. You guys helped me fight the fight,” Mthethwa updated his followers.
Many of Mthethwa’s followers shared their stories of dealing with the insurer with the reviews not being positive.
Fellow gospel musician Mnqobi Nxumalo commented that it is sad that matters only get resolved after people take to social media to air their frustrations.
“It's sad that we have to take companies to social media for them to take us seriously, had you not opted to put it out they probably would have kept quiet for longer. I'm just glad u're sorted, bro.”
Youlon Naidoo, Executive Head of Claims and Procurement at Miway Insurance, in response to IOL's question of why the matter was resolved only after Mthethwa posted on social media, said: "The matter was undergoing discussions around reaching a consensus on the settlement amount, between Mr. Mthethwa’s designated legal team and Miway's legal team."
