Multi-talented singer, songwriter and activist Moonga K. has made an electrifying return to the music scene with the release of his new song, "hold on!"
The track marks the first glimpse into his eagerly awaited EP, "Outlaw", in which he channels a bold new artistic vision that combines funk, soul and country and defies traditional norms.
"'hold on!' is a choir-driven anthem of resilience, echoing Moonga K.'s commitment to breaking musical boundaries.
"The single was announced with a visually striking teaser filmed at a horse ranch, setting the stage for a project that redefines the cowboy aesthetic through a queer African lens," read the official statement.
The new song is an anthem of resilience, stitched together by a powerful choir and infused with the rich storytelling that Moonga K. is known for.
"The single encapsulates the spirit of "Outlaw", a narrative that follows Moonga K. as a lone cowboy on the open road, guitar in hand, traversing through vast landscapes, small-town bars and the unseen corners of the world.
The accompanying music video, filmed across South Africa and Lesotho, will capture the raw beauty of Mooga K.'s journey as an artist and outlaw," read the statement.
Describing "Outlaw" as a bold reclamation of country music, Moonga K. pays homage to Black cowboys who have historically been sidelined in mainstream narratives.
Through "hold on!", he aims to shine a light on the contributions of underrepresented voices while embracing themes of courage, identity, and self-determination.
As the wheels begin to turn for "Outlaw", he has revealed plans to unveil new music and visuals, global performances and a series of immersive experiences leading up to the full EP release on June 27.
Audiences can anticipate the arrival of the second single, "stole my heart", on May 16, which will delve into an evocative queer cowboy love story, expanding the narrative universe of "Outlaw".
With "Outlaw", he continues his mission to uplift underrepresented voices, embracing themes of courage, identity and self-determination.
