American rapper Travis Scott will perform at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on October 11, as part of his extended "Circus Maximus" World Tour.

IOL reached out to Castle Lite Unlocks, who are bringing the concert to the country, regarding security measures in place for the concert, as there have been past incidents at global Scott concerts where safety became a concern.

“Safety is always a top priority, and we understand fans may have questions,” said the brand through PR agency Capacity Relations.

“As proud sponsors, Castle Lite Unlocks is here to connect fans to the biggest names in music in a safe and responsible way.

“Big Concerts and Live Nation, who have a strong track record of staging world-class shows in South Africa, are responsible for operations and safety measures on the day.

“We fully trust that every necessary step will be taken to create a safe, controlled, and unforgettable experience for everyone attending.”

Big Concerts, which also facilitated Chris Brown’s concert at the stadium, ensured that several security measures were in place; the SA Police Service, parking security, pedestrian security, and crime prevention marshals on duty monitored everyone coming into the precinct.

The venue was fully equipped with visible security throughout the premises, and added extra lighting to illuminate the outer stadium areas.

In Houston, Texas, in November 2021, tragedy struck at the Astroworld Festival. A crowd surge during his performance led to the deaths of ten individuals due to compressive asphyxiation.

During Scott’s headline performance, thousands of fans rushed towards the stage, creating intense pressure that left people unable to move, breathe, or escape.

Many collapsed, while others were trampled or suffocated in the dense crowd.

Emergency responders declared the situation a mass casualty event at 9.38pm, but the concert continued for over 30 minutes after that.

This will be Scott's second performance in Mzansi, and fans are looking forward to filling up FNB Stadium for it.
