On Saturday, scores converged in Sandton for the DSTV Content Creator Awards as viral creators, influencers and some of South Africa’s beloved local celebrities came together under one roof at the Nelson Mandela square.
The theme of the event was creative black tie, most of the attendees showed they understood the assignment as they showed up and showed out while others tried their best.
There was a purple carpet where one of this year’s event partners, radio station 974 had interviews with celebrities in attendance and some of the nominees.
Hosted by Anele Mdoda, she kept the audience entertained throughout the night.
The awards celebrate the best and brightest content creators among social media platforms. Out of 1500 entries, 87 were nominated.
Unlike the previous awards, this year there were only 17 categories with five of them being open for public voting.
Even with the limited categories this year, content creators Chris Rogers, Sifo The Cooking Husband and Simphiwe Mbatha, known as Colour me Siphiwe, went home with more than one award.

Mbatha who has over one million followers on Tiktok where she does beauty content. She won in the beauty category but was also awarded ‘The Spirit of Africa’ award, a category which had no nominees.
This award allowed creators to make public entry video sharing their African story. She bagged herself R20,000 as the winner.
While receiving the award she said: “Live authentically in yourself. I think it is so easy when you are creating content and you are being an influencer to get wrapped up under pressure to be this thing or be someone you are not. I try all the time to convey my story as it is authentic to me.”
