Durban - National Professional Teachers’ Organisation of South Africa (Naptosa) has praised the Basic Education Department for the smooth start to the matric exams.
“The first day went according to plan and we encountered and heard of no glitches and we anticipate it being so till December 7,” said Naptosa provincial CEO Thirona Moodley.
She said the union believed the department had its administration processes in order.
Grade 12s across the country wrote English Paper 1 on Monday as the National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams officially got under way.
The Department of Basic Education says despite the rain in some parts of KwaZulu-Natal there were no reported disruptions in all provinces.
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga said the Class of 2022 was the worst affected in terms of the impact of Covid-19 as both their Grade 10 and Grade 11 years were disrupted.
She appealed to South Africans to continue to support the NSC candidates throughout the exam period which ends in the first week of December.
On Tuesday, some matric pupils will sit for Economics P1.
