The Subaru Forester, already regarded as one of the better 'softroaders', has been given a thorough makeover.
In addition to a subtle facelift on the outside and upgraded cabin, the Forester gets a completely redesigned engine range (including two diesel models), a flagship S-Edition flagship and reduced prices across the range.
The minor nip and tuck given to the exterior comprises a new grille with a silver metallic finish up front, new exterior mirrors with indicator repeaters and most models also receive a new alloy wheel design.
Beneath the bonnet, the big news is that the Forester now offers a diesel for the first time. Subaru's new 2-litre turbocharged Boxer diesel engine delivers 110kW at 3600rpm and 350Nm of twist between 1800 and 2400rpm. It is coupled to a six-speed manual transmission.
On the petrol front, the EJ range of engines has been replaced by the new FB range, which offers improved combustion efficiency, reduced emissions and better drivability, says Subaru.
To that end, the new 2.5-litre DOHC Boxer engine churns out 126kW at 5800rpm and 235Nm at 4100rpm. This new naturally aspirated engine is available with a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission.
There's also a new flagship model: the Forester S- Edition, which is differentiated from the rest of the range by a unique colour selection, a black front grille, STI-design 17-inch alloy wheels, a rear spoiler and rear privacy glass.
It is powered by a 2.5-litre turbocharged Boxer engine that pumps out 193kW at 6000rpm and 347Nm between 2800 and 4800rpm. It is matched to a five-speed automatic transmission, which offers paddle-shift manual control.
Depending on what model we're speaking of, the cabin gets a glut of new goodies, including dual zone climate control, a premium audio system that includes USB input as well as Bluetooth and iPod connectivity, improved steering wheel mounted controls and a reverse camera.
