BMW has promised us more driving excitement, more in-car-infotainment, more of everything that makes a small car special when the new Mini is unveiled on 18 November, 107 years to the day since the birth of Sir Alec Issigonis, the man who started an automobile revolution.
The world premiere will be at the Mini plant in Oxford, with a party in London that same evening. The new Mini will also have its international display premiere that same week, with almost simultaneous presentations on 20 November in Tokyo and Los Angeles.
The new Mini will go on sale during the first quarter of 2014.
Just like its predecessor, the new Mini will be built in Oxford, where its world debut and the start of production will be highlights of the factory's centenary year.
The presentation at the plant will pay tribute to the little car's origins and its creator. With the introduction of the Mini in 1959, Alec Issigonis revolutionised the automobile industry. A transversely mounted engine, front wheel drive and a wheel at each corner not only delivered unparalleled cabin space for passengers and luggage on a small footprint, but also exceptional driving agility.
The concepts Issigonis introduced in the Mini became the industry standard for small and compact cars, and the new Mini is no different.
