This is the production version of the Subaru BRZ Premium Sport concept that was presented at the Tokyo motor show in January. The good news is that it will go on sale in Japan in time for Christmas at ¥3 054 500 (R306 500); the bad news is that it will not be going on sale anywhere else.
Subaru says the JDM Premium Sport is aimed at 'playful adults' - i.e. grownups with money to spend on their toys. Mechanically it's identical to the common or garden-variety BRZ, with its two-litre boxer four driving the rar wheels through either a six-speed manual or a six-speed auto transmission.
PREMIUM CONTENT
Most of the 'Premium' bits are inside, starting with two-tone sports seats in black and tan leather, black alcantara with tan stitching on the instrument binnacle, the door cappings and the sides of the centre console, and tan leather on the door liners as well as gear lever and handbrake boots.
Carbon-fibre trim elements with brushed satin silver accents and aluminium pedals supply the bling, and the Premium Sport runs on blacked-out 17" STI alloys.
