The third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan has arrived in South Africa, boasting a completely fresh look and high-tech cabin.
Built around the company’s updated MQB Evo platform, the new Tiguan is 30mm longer than the current model, while the rest of its dimensions remain similar to the outgoing version.
Six variants are set to be offered, but not all are available at launch.
The bottom half of the line-up is powered by the familiar 1.4-litre TSI turbopetrol, producing 110kW and 250Nm, and driving the front wheels through a seven-speed DSG gearbox.
The base Tiguan, available from November, kicks things off at R651,500. But available at launch is the 1.4 TSI Life, priced at R702,800, and the 1.4 TSI R-Line, which is yours for R766,300.
The petrol-powered range is topped off by a 2.0 TSI R-Line 4Motion all-wheel drive variant, priced at R835,900.
The carmaker will also continue to serve diesel customers with two 2.0 TDI variants, available from November. But whereas VWSA previously offered this engine in 130kW guise, the new Tiguan makes do with 110kW and 340Nm. It is available in two 4Motion all-wheel drive models, with the Life derivative priced at R755,700 and an R-Line at R834,800.
The cockpit of the 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan has a wrap-around design, incorporating a new digital instrument cluster with anti-reflective coating, as well as a high-mounted central infotainment system, which boasts a completely new menu structure and graphics.
What features come standard in the new Volkswagen Tiguan?
The base version has 17-inch Bari alloy wheels, Eco LED headlights, a 12.9-inch infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, 10-colour ambient lighting dashboard and Park Assist.
The Tiguan Life gains LED Plus headlights with auto high-beam, front grille with LED light strip, multi-function steering wheel with shift paddles, ambient lighting extended to the doors and electric foldable side mirrors with memory function.
The Tiguan R-Line rolls on 19-inch Coventry alloy wheels, and the cabin gains ErgoActive heated front seats with massage function, Varrena leather upholstery with R-Line logos, 30-colour ambient lighting and a heated sports steering wheel, to name a few of the highlights.
The Tiguan is sold with a five-year or 90,000km service plan.
