A 30-year-old woman, identified as Imaan Syms, was brutally shot and killed on Monday night in Sussex Street, Woodstock.
The unknown suspect fled the scene, leaving the community in shock.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said that Woodstock police responded to a shooting complaint and discovered Syms' body with multiple gunshot wounds.
"According to reports, the victim was approached by an unknown suspect who shot her before fleeing the scene," Twigg confirmed.
"The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel."
Police have yet to determine the motive for the attack, and no arrests have been made.
A murder case is under investigation, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Syms was the daughter of Ziyaad Williams, a well-known figure in the Minstrel Fraternity and team owner of D Six Hanover Minstrels. Following the tragic news, social media was flooded with tributes, with many remembering her as a loving and caring person.
Police continue to investigate the incident and encourage anyone with relevant information to assist in their efforts.
