Two security guards were wounded in a cash-in-transit robbery on the N2, northbound just before Higginson Highway on Monday night.

Garrith Jamieson on ALS Paramedics said emergency services arrived to find the badly damaged cash-carrying vehicle in the emergency lane, with members of the public looting from the truck.

"Two officers had sustained moderate injuries from gun shot wounds and assault wounds. Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to stabilize the men on scene before transporting them to a nearby Hospital for the further care that they required," Jamieson said.

He added that the roadway had to be closed while police gathered evidence from the scene.

Meanwhile, in a separate case, police in Stellenbosch have arrested a 42-year-old man in connection with a cash heist in April.

Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Siyabulela Vukubi, said Mandla Jack accosted guards as they were collection cash at a petrol station.

"The crewman went inside to collect the cash. While exiting the garage, he was approached from behind by unknown males who pointed him with a gun. The suspects took his service pistol and 10 rounds of ammunition.

“He was further ordered to hand over the cash safe. At that stage, the contents of the cross pavement carrier box was already deposited into the drop safe of the armoured vehicle," Vukubi said.

The suspects then fled the crime scene in a white VW Polo which was fitted with false number plates.

"Investigation by the Hawks' National Priority Violent Crime team led to the arrest. Jack was positively linked to the crime. Jack appeared in court and the matter was remanded to November 7 for bail application. Jack remains in custody," Vukubi said.
