A Limpopo man wanted in connection with the murder of his wife was found hanged from a tree.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said an inquest into his death had been opened.

The man allegedly killed his wife in the Ntoane Village in Dennilton on November 25, 2024.

Police said the wife had been stabbed following a domestic dispute and was taken to hospital where she was declared deceased on arrival.

"The suspect after the heinous act allegedly fled the scene and had been on the run."

Ledwaba said Limpopo police are also investigating the possibility that the suspect had been assisted to evade the arrest.

He warned communities that harbouring a criminal is a serious offense that was punishable by law.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe encouraged the Denilton community to work with relevant structures to fight against gender-based violence and domestic abuse.

"It is heartbreaking to see both parents passing on, thus leaving their children as orphans," concluded Hadebe.

The country is currently observing the 16 Days Campaign on No violence against Women and Children.

The campaign started on Monday and will end on December 10, 2024.

According to the recent crime statistics released by the SAPS, close to 1,000 women and over 300 children were killed in three months.

The National Police Minister Senzo Mchunu cited gender-based violence as a pandemic.

“It requires our distinct focus, as it continues to devastate families and communities, with a unique set of challenges that demand specialized intervention, thorough investigations, and collaborative solutions."
