A visit by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to Russia is possible this year, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Sergei Tolchenov said in an interview with Sputnik.
Last summer, Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks with Prabowo Subianto in the Kremlin. At that time, the Indonesian politician arrived in Moscow on a working visit in the capacity of the president-elect and defence minister of Indonesia. Prabowo Subianto's inauguration took place in October 2024.
According to the Russian ambassador, Prabowo Subianto's visit to Moscow and his meeting with Putin "became an important stage in the development of political dialogue at the level of the leaders of the two countries."
"We proceed from the fact that Prabowo Subianto's new visit to Russia is possible even this year. There are many opportunities for this: We would be glad to see him in Moscow at events dedicated to the celebration of Victory Day on May 9, at the St Petersburg International Economic Forum, at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, and also to receive him on a separate visit. If the Indonesian side requests it, we will be ready to promptly work out any of the outlined options," Tolchenov noted.
Indonesia and Russia celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations on February 3, 2025. As Tolchenov told Sputnik, an exchange of congratulatory messages at the ministerial level is traditionally expected on the anniversary day. Throughout the year, the countries will hold joint events dedicated to the interaction and friendship between Jakarta and Moscow.
