Tshwane's Online Intervention Unit successfully recovered a stolen Toyota Fortuner in Winterveldt following a tip-off.
The vehicle, reported stolen in Rustenburg, was found partially stripped. Police are currently searching for suspects while forensic teams gather evidence.
Tshwane district police spokesperson, Captain Johan van Dyk, said members of the Tshwane District Online Intervention Unit, which is responsible for preventing and investigating online robberies linked to false advertisements on social media, demonstrated their versatility and commitment by successfully recovering a stolen vehicle in Winterveldt on Tuesday.
“While police were conducting patrols to identify known suspects and potential victims of online robberies. The dedicated team received information regarding individuals who were in the process of stripping a vehicle in Slovoville, Winterveldt, that is situated in the Northern parts of Tshwane.”
Van Dyk stated that the police acted swiftly on the information received and proceeded to the given address. Upon arrival, they discovered a white Toyota Fortuner with its doors open, stripped of various components. A preliminary investigation confirmed that the vehicle had been reported stolen in Rustenburg.
Police are still searching for suspects linked to the crime.
The Local Criminal Record Centre, responsible for crime scene management, was called in to assist with evidence collection. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to identify and apprehend those involved.
