Galaxy coach Adnan Beganovic is a big admirer of Mamelodi Sundowns and feels their quality players can finish a match in one second.
On Saturday at Atteridgeville, Sundowns scored twice in the opening seven minutes against Galaxy. The same Galaxy captured the imagination of local fans two weeks ago when they defeated Betway Premiership log-leaders Sundowns 1-0 at Mbombela Stadium in a midweek game. On Saturday, Sundowns exacted cold revenge with a 4-1 rout at the Lucas Moripe Stadium.
Afterwards, Beganovic couldn't praise Sundowns enough and this is one of the takeaways of Mzansi's weekend footy.
Furious Ertuğral says no to Player of the Match award
Once again the match officials incurred the wrath of Cape Town City's manager Muhsin Ertuğral. After Saturday's clash against Orlando Pirates at Orlando Stadium, Ertuğral declared at the post-match presser: "I would not give the Player of the Match award to any player. It is sad, I must say." Ertuğral said some of his players were kicked to pieces, right under the noses of match officials.
Orlando Stadium pitch looks good, but dryness is a problem
Week after week, PSL club coaches criticise the state of pitches, and with good reason. On Saturday, Pirates coach José Riveiro said his players had difficulty passing the ball although he doubted whether the people appreciated the reason behind this.
"I know people will think I’m crazy because it’s looking nice in camera, but it’s so difficult to be precise when the pitch is dry," said Riveiro.
Since the Orlando Stadium is almost exclusively used by Pirates, there is no reason why they cannot prepare the playing surface in line with the wishes of the team's technical staff.
McKenzie warns PSL corrupt refs: 'Your time is up'
Sports Minister Gayton McKenzie was in the stands at Orlando Stadium on Saturday and seemed delighted at the end of the game. It is not known what his impression of the officiating was, but he again shared his thoughts afterwards.
"I made the promise to South Africa that VAR is coming. I said at the end of April, and nothing has changed, we'll see. I see there are some teams worried about VAR, I won't mention names, but those who love the sport of soccer will be happy for VAR. If you are a corrupt referee, your time is coming to an end."
It's hard to believe that this will happen because of the infrastructure needed at venues that do not belong to football organizations.
Chilli Boys mentor September says match officials are regressing
Chippa United coach Thabo September feels match officials in the PSL are regressing and not learning from their mistakes. The Chilli Boys mentor was reacting following the 1-0 defeat to Sekhukhune United at the Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
September said he was aware that he could be punished for talking about refs, but he felt he must make his voice heard.
"I'm still new to this coaching thing but the worst thing is when you make a mistake, and you don't acknowledge the mistake. I think it is disappointing that a referee doesn't want to acknowledge and communicate. Mistakes will always happen, maybe sometimes it's deliberate and sometimes not but just acknowledge and don't force things as if you did something right," he said afterwards.
Sundowns can finish the game in one second, says Rockets
TS Galaxy coach Adnan Beganovic was blown away by the might of Mamelodi Sundowns who avenged their defeat earlier this month with a resounding 4-1 win on Saturday.
Beganovic was so impressed that he was moved to say: "They have quality players who can finish a game in one second."
Beganovic said Sundowns may be the best team in Africa because they have invested so much in their players and facilities. He added they always play in the Champions League and are going to the Fifa Club World Cup.
