Golden Arrows and Magesi FC’s Premiership game was abandoned until further notice, after the floodlights stopped working at Mpumalanga Stadium on Wednesday night.
The match is expected to resume only for the last four minutes at the same venue, with the time and date yet to be confirmed by the PSL as the match had to be halted in the 86th minute, with Magesi leading 1-0.
Arrows will probably look at the situation as a blessing in disguise as they were on the cusp of their first loss of the season after trailing to Wonderboy Makhubu’s goal.
Abafana Bes’thende initially had a perfect start to the season, winning both their first two games against Stellenbosch FC and Marumo Gallants respectively.
The victory over Stellenbosch in their opening game must have tasted sweeter for coach Mabhuti Khenyeza, given that the MTN8 finalists have been on an upward trajectory.
Magesi coach Clinton Larsen will feel hard done by due to the power outage as his Limpopo side were close to their first win of the season after the first three league games.
SCENES ✨
Our match against Golden Arrows has been abandoned due to a power outage 😶.
We await a decision from the league on whether the match will play the remaining 4 minutes tomorrow or start from scratch.#DikwenaTsaMeetse 🐊#TheBlueNation#BetwayPrem
The recently promoted Magesi initially had a tough start to life in the top-flight, losing both derbies to Limpopo rivals Sekhukhune United and Polokwane City respectively.
That was disappointing for Magesi as that run of results sunk them into the relegation zone, something that was not survived by Cape Town Spurs last season.
Chippa United, meanwhile, failed to consolidate their lead after drawing 1-1 with Sekhukhune United at the New Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Wednesday night.
This result saw the Chilli Boys sit seventh on the log standings with four points, having won their last match away to Richards Bay over the weekend.
Stocky striker Bienvenu Eva Nga had put his side in the driving seat with a thumping header in the first half, but that was cancelled out by Thabang Monare’s strike in the second.
Chippa will, moreover, count themselves lucky that they were able to salvage a point as they were reduced to 10 men in the second half after a red card to defender Sirgio Kammies.
Meanwhile, the availability of coach Gavin Hunt on the bench for SuperSport United for the first time in the league this season bore immediate fruit.

Hunt, who was suspended for the first two league games owing to a red card he got in the 3-1 MTN8 quarter-final loss to Orlando Pirates, guided his team to a 1-0 win over TS Galaxy at home.
Terrence Dzvukamanja scored the lone goal of the match, guiding SuperSport to their first victory of the league season after a loss to Mamelodi Sundowns and draw with Royal AM.
